Operation Stimulus
Operation Stimulus, a new $505 million Australian Government package for the Northern Territory, is designed to boost economic activity and support thousands of jobs for Territorians.
Social Housing Initiative
The package includes $64 million for public and community housing with the aim of:
- Stimulating the economy through the building sector
- Addressing the high level of homelessness by increasing the supply of social housing.
This package will be used for the repair and maintenance of existing public housing dwellings and the construction of new social housing dwellings.
Funding for a repairs and upgrade program for existing social housing commenced in March 2009. Information about tenders is available from Northern Territory Government Tenders Online website.
The Australian Government has released detailed Guidelines for the Social Housing Initiative. These Guidelines outline how these funds for the construction of new dwellings can be used.
The Department of Local Government and Housing is preparing the Northern Territory government bid to the Australian Government for these funds
All interested parties, including those industry members who have previously registered their interest in Operation Stimulus, are encouraged to submit a proposal for inclusion in the NT Government bid.
