Paying Rent

All tenants of Territory Housing properties pay rent.

Territory Housing charges rent in accordance with the provisions of the Residential Tenancies Act, the Housing Act and Housing Regulations.

If tenants receive a Centrelink payment, the easiest way to pay rent is through Autopay (the Centrelink Direct Deduction Scheme). Autopay is a free service that automatically transfers rent from a Centrelink payment each fortnight. Using Autopay means no waiting in queues, no mailing costs and no worries about remembering to pay rent on time. It is a easy and hassle free way to pay rent.

Tenants who are not Centrelink customers may pay their rent weekly, fortnight or monthly, as long as their account is kept in credit by at least one weeks rent. Payments can be made:

  • in person at any Australia Post office,
  • by Direct Debit from a Bank or Credit Union account,
  • by salary deduction with a participating employer,
  • by mailing a cheque or money order to any Territory Housing office, or
  • by credit card payment over the phone to Territory Housing.

Please note, you may need to quote your rent account number when making payment.
