Good Neighbour

Everyone is entitled to the quiet enjoyment of their home.

"Public housing tenants should not repeatedly cause or permit an interference with the reasonable peace or privacy of another person who resides in the immediate vicinity of the premises." Residential Tenancies Act, Section 100 (c)

Territory Housing views complaints of noise and nuisance seriously and will offer advice and take necessary action in relation to all complaints against public housing tenants irrespective of whether the complaint is made by another public housing tenant or private householders. Territory Housing can only act in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act. In some cases other agencies have the power to deal with complaints and therefore these complaints may need to be referred to Police, community mediation providers or other support services.

What are my responsibilities as a good neighbour?

  • Respect your neighbours.
  • Allow for reasonable peace, quiet and enjoyment in the neighbourhood.
  • Ensure that your behaviour does not have a negative impact on other neighbours.
  • Be responsible for your visitors.

Read the Good Neighbour brochure for further information.
